When art grabs you
"Anyone can learn to paint if they have the right instructor. Talent is just perseverance and learning to see," said Chino Valley artist Kathy Anderson.

Kathy developed a love for things of the "Old West" which shows in her impressive oil paintings of the Southwest. .

"I love horses and since I live in the West, I like painting the western horse and the people who rode them," Kathy said. "I also love to place them in all the different landscapes in the West that I have visited."

Puppets with personality
Puppetry is said to have started in India about 1,000 years B.C. But, isn't it interesting that even though puppets go way back in history, puppetry is still thriving in today's world?

Misty Mortimer of Chino Valley has been making her own puppets since 1991 and is a puppeteer for the children's program at her church. She and her husband, Bill, met at Bible college and after graduating believed they were led by God to move to Chino Valley.

Miller retires from hot career
On June 30, 2010, at 1 p.m., Battalion Chief Jack Miller retired from the Chino Valley Fire District, and all his fellow firefighters from the tri-city area were calling in on their radios giving him their best wishes. Jack said he's going to fill his days fishing and playing with his new granddaughter, Payton.

"I've wanted to have a big garden since the age of 16, but life got in the way," said Chuck Fleming, co-owner of Shady Acres Farm in Paulden. "So when we moved here, I was finally able to have the space and soil to have one.

Chuck and Sheilah Keith work from morning to night tending, watering and weeding their two-acre garden where they grow an abundance of vegetables.
